Greece winds can be separated in two regions: the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea. The Winds of the Aegean Sea, are called Meltemi during the summer season and are present from May to September. They become predominantly strong during July and August and their usual duration is from 2 to 4 days. Meltemi come from the NE in the North Aegean, from the North in Central Aegean and from the NW in the South Aegean .

The Ionian Sea Winds typically blow from the NW, during the summer season, and are called Maistros.
